A farmer describes returning to daily life

Abd Hanan Safi, from Patan, said he injured himself while rescuing his children and later struggled to walk. HI staff taught him exercises and provided a walking aid. “Now we have to look to the future,” he said, describing plans to rebuild his home and help his children return to school. [1]

Hospital care also supports families

In its 17 November report, HI described emergency rehabilitation at Nangarhar Regional Hospital in Jalalabad. Physiotherapist Danny Gordon explained that distance and difficult access prevented some patients from returning. Teams therefore taught patients and caregivers how to protect injured joints and wounds, alongside providing mobility aids. [2]

European funding follows the earthquake

On 2 September, the European Commission had approved €1 million in emergency funding and announced around 130 tonnes of relief supplies, including medical and shelter materials. The assistance was to go through humanitarian partners already working on the ground. HI subsequently reported EU support for its rehabilitation response. [3][2]
