Health support and daily survival
Bahati also took part in psychosocial sessions and said his morale had improved. He urged continued assistance: “we need the support to continue”. His appeal included food and a safe return to farming. HI reported that its mobile teams combined rehabilitation, psychosocial care and referrals to other organisations. [1]
Children and caregivers receive support together
Another report that day followed two-year-old Diela and her caregiver Maria at Bulengo camp. HI first referred Diela for treatment of malnutrition, then provided play-based stimulation sessions. Maria learned exercises she could repeat at home. After six sessions, HI reported that Diela had taken her first steps. [2]
Displacement sites also face violence
The need for accessible care unfolded amid threats to civilian safety. On 3 May 2024, UNHCR and UNICEF condemned bombardments of displacement sites in Goma’s Lac Vert, Lushagala and Mugunga neighbourhoods. The agencies reported deaths and injuries, mainly among women and children, at locations designated for civilians.
