Who controls the support?
ENIL board member Rados Keravica examined how misleading terminology affects disabled people’s lives, prompting discussion of community living and day centres. Participants compared national personal-assistance work, including Slovenia’s legislation presented by YHD. Policy coordinator Florian Sanden connected national barriers with advocacy towards European institutions and governments. [1]
Hungarian organisers describe the gap
In a November 2022 contribution, Freekey explained that existing Hungarian home-support services usually operated during weekday working hours and did not let users recruit, select and employ assistants themselves. Its team sought to share practical knowledge, strengthen disabled people as employers and build support for assistance controlled by its users.
Experience travels beyond the region
The same year, Ohio State University’s April conference programme featured a Freekey session with Daniel Csángó, Nikolett Rékasi, Veronika Kalász, Zsuzsanna Kunt and Elizabeth Sammons. Its focus was the social, political and funding barriers to self-determination in Hungary.
