Learning reaches election institutions

IFES described an online course with 20 modules and support from Jakarta Muhammadiyah University. Participants explored rights, public speaking and electoral systems, then developed proposals for the General Elections Commission and Election Supervisory Board. Their suggestions covered accessible websites, ballots, disability data and employment opportunities within election bodies. [2]

Advocates move into practical roles

According to IFES, Jakarta’s election commission released a disability-voter infographic in September 2022 following participants’ recommendations. Seven participants subsequently completed internships with the two election bodies. Commissioner Lolly Suhenty expressed support for further training to reach more young people before the 2024 elections. [2]

Local organisations shape the course

IFES announced the Zero Project recognition on 15 December 2022. The programme combined learning with community projects and internships, working through disability organisations and universities. Zero Project’s profile highlighted how local partners adapted the course to different countries, including Indonesia’s move to online delivery during the pandemic. [3]
