Practical questions about working together

The handbook covers recruitment interviews, giving instructions and establishing professional boundaries. It also discusses work schedules and the need to respect assistants’ employment rights. These everyday arrangements affect how people can direct the support they need, while making responsibilities clear for both the person receiving assistance and the assistant. [2]

A resource for advocacy

YHD presented the freely downloadable book as a contribution to understanding personal assistance as a human right. Alongside practical examples, it describes the Slovenian struggle for independent living and explains differences between personal assistance and other community services. The organisation hoped it would encourage activism and attract policymakers’ attention.

Activists discuss control over support

At an ENIL webinar on 27 October 2023, Retelj discussed the handbook’s advice on interviews and professional relationships. Pečarič and fellow activist Klaudija Poropat emphasised individual needs and learning from people’s own experience. Their contributions linked the practical management of assistants with the wider demand for autonomy in everyday life. [3]
