Chipasha said the training strengthened his determination to share information with neighbours, families and other people with intellectual disabilities. A group develops its voice

The workshop took place from 23 to 25 August 2023. Trainer Mark Mapemba reported discussions about inclusion, decision-making, human rights and the UN disability convention. Participants planned to work together as a self-advocacy group and use their knowledge to challenge attitudes within their communities. [2]

Accessible participation reaches international monitoring

A June 2024 account described Chihana and Pelekelo Kabanda helping prepare Zambia’s parallel report for the UN disability committee. Chihana valued easy-read explanations; Kabanda presented in Geneva in March. Both called for self-advocates to identify issues and participate from the beginning of future reporting processes. [3]
