A new federal payment

Service Canada administers the benefit. The June announcement required an approved Disability Tax Credit, a filed income-tax return and qualifying residence or immigration status. The government described the payment as a supplement to provincial and territorial support. The CAD 200 figure refers to the initial July 2025–June 2026 period, rather than a permanent rate. [1][2]

An organisation helps people apply

Inclusion Canada encouraged eligible people to apply and explained the online, telephone, postal and in-person routes. Its guidance also made clear that a missing invitation letter did not automatically exclude an applicant. This practical information addressed the steps between a new entitlement and actually receiving it.

Adequacy remained contested

The organisation said the benefit would help with some basic needs but would not be enough for everyone, and that it was seeking an increase. The launch therefore created a payment route while leaving the level of support open to challenge. Eligibility checks and income-based calculations also meant the maximum was not payable to every applicant. [3][1]
