Shelda joined awareness activities through her school and the Forum for Deaf Children, Interaksi. UNICEF reported campaigns across five Central Java districts. She later attended a 2024 ministerial-level conference on violence against children in Bogotá. Her message was direct: “No more victims. No more silence.”

Children help shape the campaign

UNICEF’s 2023 annual report described work with the child-led Forum Anak to run the JagaBareng online-safety campaign challenge across ten provinces. Children were involved in creating awareness activities, adding peer perspectives to efforts to prevent online sexual exploitation and abuse.

Safety education reaches too few respondents

A 2023 baseline study interviewed 510 children about their online experiences in Central Java, East Java and South Sulawesi, including 52 with disabilities. Only 37.5 per cent of the children interviewed had received information about staying safe online. The findings identified a training gap within the study’s three-province sample. [3]
