A young advocate asks adults to listen

“Every child has a voice and the right to be heard,” Gilardy said. UNICEF linked the appointment to his campaigning on protection, healthcare, education and participation. He had first shared his experience of albinism publicly at a UNICEF-supported children’s TEDx event in 2020.

Music carries the message to families

His advocacy also reached audiences through music. UNICEF’s account of World Children’s Day on 20 November 2022 named Gilardy among the performers of Zon’ny Ankizy, alongside ambassador Mirado, Lova Renée and Luco. The song addressed parents and other adults with a message about respecting children’s fundamental rights.

The call for youth participation continues

In a statement published by the United Nations on 24 October 2025, Gilardy returned to the issue of opportunities. He argued that young people could drive change when they were given chances to act. His message for the UN’s 80th anniversary called for greater recognition of young people’s role in shaping the future. [3]
