Water, food and community voices
Residents raised the need for additional water tanks and support for sustainable crop cultivation. Discussions also considered women’s roles and the preservation of Marshallese culture. Rubida Alik, head of the ministry’s Community Division, stressed the importance of cooperation among the participating organisations. [1]
Distinct roles for civil society
The Climate Change Directorate’s record of wider adaptation-plan consultations described three NGO partners: Jo-Jikum focusing on youth, WUTMI on women and inclusion, and the Marshall Islands Conservation Society on livelihoods. IOM worked with the government on engagement across eight atolls. [2]
Reaching people outside established networks
The ministry’s 2022–2023 annual report also described a separate youth event targeting people who had not previously joined climate discussions. Its intended participants included the disability community, school dropouts and civil society groups. [3]
