Households and local organisations are targeted

The announced household-support component was expected to reach about 3,266 people. Plans also included capacity building for ten NGOs, community groups and disability organisations, alongside training for 150 individuals. UNDP representative Sudipto Mukerjee linked the funding to equal rights and opportunities and to disabled people’s ability to shape community development. [1]

An earlier dialogue put participation first

A Finland–UNDP online event on 2 May 2024 called for disabled people’s voices to be included in recovery strategies and programme decisions. Its published agenda brought together policymakers, donors, practitioners and affected communities to discuss expanding inclusion across humanitarian work, development and peace efforts. [2]

Training provides a concrete example

In its 2024 country results report, the UN described a separate Finland-funded project called I am Able. It supported vocational training for 85 people with disabilities in Lattakia and Tartous. The report placed this work within wider efforts to develop skills and access to livelihoods, illustrating another part of the countries’ disability-inclusion cooperation. [3]
