Support beyond the building

UNDP representative Louisa Vinton said “the needs of millions of earthquake survivors remain acute”. Trained social workers staffed the centres, while relatives caring for disabled people could obtain advice, counselling and respite. Accessible outdoor areas and mobile services extended the centres’ community role. Training reached 64 women and 48 men working in social services.

Repairing equipment locally

A separate UNDP recovery project, running from October 2023 to June 2025, included participatory assessments in temporary settlements. Its completion account reported a wheelchair repair station upgraded in Malatya and repair workshops established in Adıyaman, Hatay and Kahramanmaraş, in cooperation with municipalities.

AYDER connects prosthetics with daily life

In May 2025, UNDP described a pilot with the Alternative Life Association, AYDER. Individual interviews linked prosthetic assessments with survivors’ social and employment goals. The initiative combined evaluation, rehabilitation and support for participation, drawing on an eight-person expert team working in Adana and Hatay.
