Young people help develop the messages

UNICEF worked with the Yemeni Executive Mine Action Center and deaf associations to adapt educational materials. “Through various illustrative tools translated into sign language, we raise awareness about the dangers of explosive remnants of war,” Hadeel said. The programme combined sign-language resources with community outreach across eight governorates.

The case study explains participation and reach

An April 2025 case study reported that sign-language experts and adolescents with hearing impairments helped develop messages and materials. The association also helped prepare a training manual and train trainers. UNICEF reported more than 31,000 people reached through interpersonal sessions from 2019 to 2023, often with relatives and friends accompanying children.

Community campaigns continue in Hudaydah

In a separate August 2025 report, UNICEF described a broader campaign held from March to May in Alduraihimi and Alhali districts. It reported reaching 81,905 people, including 50,514 children. YEMAC education director Ali Al-Shagheer called for continued awareness work, particularly for children, shepherds and farmers.
