Lifetime experience differs from the annual picture

The analysis reported that 56% of women with functional difficulties had experienced violence during their lives, compared with 47.3% of women without such difficulties. For the preceding twelve months, the figures were almost identical: 30.1% and 30.3%. The survey covered women aged 15 and over and used six questions on functional difficulties. [2]

Justice and support must be accessible

The authors urged accessible health, justice and protection services, including shelters and information. They called for staff training and consultation with women and girls with disabilities when designing policies and budgets. Some detailed subgroup estimates were too small to support general conclusions, particularly for communication and self-care difficulties. [2]

A second publication focused on barriers to help

On 17 March 2025, the organisations published a second issue examining challenges in responding to violence. It continued their work with the household survey and placed access barriers at the centre of the discussion. The joint publications brought an independent-living organisation into the analysis of national gender-violence data. [3]
