A wish to return home
Assagid said psychological first aid had helped him manage anxiety and rebuild confidence. The wheelchair made it easier to move around independently. He hoped for peace, a return to his village and the opportunity to help rebuild his community alongside his family. [1]
Local partners provide support
A follow-up HI report on 29 April described work with the Malian association ATDED, community representatives and medical NGOs. Psychologists, psychosocial workers and case managers assisted displaced people. Three spaces in Gao and Bourem offered women survivors of violence and displaced children opportunities for mutual support and creative activities. [2]
Mobility within humanitarian assistance
The EU-funded project ran from April 2024 to April 2025. HI reported that 2,866 people received psychological first aid and personalised psychosocial support, while 46 people with disabilities received mobility aids. Its wider Mali programme also trains community representatives to identify people needing assistance and connects rehabilitation with protection services. [2][3]
