Treatment after leaving hospital
Rehabilitation specialist Hélène Nigay said services remained concentrated in major cities, making follow-up difficult after patients returned home. Cold tents, damaged mobility aids and remote roads complicated treatment. Project manager Hicham Habibou described the logistical work needed to coordinate staff, equipment and visits with local communities. [1]
First mobile visits
The first mobile visit took place from 29 to 31 December 2023 in Sidi Bedhaj and Amizmiz, following training for partner teams. By its March report, HI said six further visits had been organised and more than 210 people reached. The teams combined physical rehabilitation, psychological support and community-based rehabilitation staff. [1]
Shelter and mobility together
“We expect a significant need for rehabilitation,” HI country manager Céline Abric said in September 2023, also describing the difficulty of reaching mountain settlements. An update two days later described work with local partners to supply tents, tarpaulins, crutches, walking frames and wheelchairs. The response linked emergency shelter with people’s ability to move and access care. [2][3]
