Suad Dahir demands a say
“Others should no longer decide for us,” committee member Suad Dahir says on the campaign website. She connects inclusion with decisions about housing, work and daily life. The campaign made these choices central to its call for equal rights for people with disabilities. [1]
What the proposed article would change
Proposed constitutional article 8a would require legal and practical equality across all areas of life. It would provide for necessary, proportionate support and adjustments, including personal and technical assistance. It also sets out freedom to choose housing arrangements and location, with the support needed to exercise that choice. [2]
A coalition seeking a constitutional change
AGILE.CH, Amnesty International Switzerland, Inclusion Handicap and Tatkraft supported the initiative. Their cooperation brought disability organisations and human-rights campaigning together around a shared proposal. Submitting the signatures advanced a political demand; it did not itself put the proposed constitutional article into force. [2]
