A mother describes understanding her child
Amina Gapili and her daughter Zenaba took part after the child’s treatment for severe malnutrition. Amina said the activities helped her understand her daughter’s needs. HI psychosocial support officer Nestor Sainkam explained that involving parents helped children feel secure during play and encouraged families to continue activities at home. [1]
A separate family account centres on play
In August 2023, HI had published Sophie’s account of support for her two-year-old daughter Mireille, who had an intellectual disability. Sophie described the physiotherapist’s patience when Mireille was initially afraid, and later changes in how the child played and interacted with siblings. She made time for activities around work and household responsibilities. [2]
Support sits within a wider programme
HI’s 2024 Chad country overview placed rehabilitation and stimulation therapy alongside inclusive education and support for livelihoods. It also recorded that the RIMSCASSA rehabilitation project closed in June 2024. The family accounts described parents participating directly in their children’s support through play and shared activities. [3][1][2]
