Higher pay and additional leave

In a follow-up on 10 June, NPA miðstöðin said assistants had received pay under the new agreement on 31 May. Pay across the assistants’ salary grades rose by 5.9 per cent. Additional leave rights began accruing on 1 May 2024 for use the following year, rather than during that summer.

Back pay depended on municipal rates

The agreement applied retrospectively from 1 February 2024. The centre said backdated increases would be paid once most municipalities had raised their funding rates in line with the agreement. This linked the practical payment of negotiated improvements to the public financing of assistance. [1][2]

A cooperative owned by disabled people

NPA miðstöðin describes itself as a cooperative owned by disabled people. It helps members recruit assistants, organise shifts, handle payroll and obtain peer advice. It also supports applications and discussions with municipalities about the assistance needed. Collective bargaining forms part of that work. The agreement therefore concerned both assistants’ employment conditions and the organisation of support directed by the people using it.
