Closing the gap between policy and daily life
The organisers called for stronger coordination between sectors, services reaching rural communities and support systems for families and caregivers. Education Minister Jai Bir Rai presided over the closing. The recommendations also urged clearer access to legal services and better alignment between disability policy and other public policies. [1]
Schools asked to respond to individual needs
The conference proposed reviewing the model of schools providing special educational support and developing a common curriculum with teaching and assessment adapted to individual needs. Teacher training and assistive technology were among the priorities. Perkins’ programme included presentations by the Phensem parents’ group on person-centred planning. [1][2]
New materials for use at home
Five home-intervention videos in four languages were launched alongside printed resources. Perkins also documented two locally adapted guides developed with Bhutanese education partners, addressing quiet spaces and learning through play. The materials gave families and educators practical resources to accompany the conference’s recommendations. [1][2]
