Teaching materials and contact with parents
Ahmed highlighted “specific tools designed for inclusive kindergarten classrooms”. She described adapting teaching materials, discussing individual learning needs with families and maintaining contact with parents. UNICEF linked her experience to a 2023–2024 programme intended to introduce an inclusive model in 153 public schools across Assiut, Sohag and Beheira.
Foundation support for early education
In its description of The First Years Matter project, the Sawiris Foundation set goals including staff training, resources for 20 learning rooms in Assiut and access to inclusive preschool education for children with disabilities. The stated project period ran from February 2023 to January 2025, with attention also to accessible water and sanitation. [2]
A wider access gap
UNICEF’s Egypt country-programme overview, published in January 2023, described substantial exclusion from education among school-age children with disabilities. It also identified stigma affecting adolescents. The classroom work addressed part of that wider challenge: enabling children to learn alongside their peers and helping families participate in their education. [1]
